One Seed and One Life: How Change Happens

One seed at a time. One life at a time. That is how most change happens.

I recently helped a young man in Cameroon get set up on the United Nations Volunteers portal. I walked him through the entire process while offering some “advice” based on my own personal experiences during the past 3 years. It was humbling to have someone I have never personally met come to me for guidance about their own passion to serve others. In fact, this is about the 6th time this has happened in the past 1-2 months… People who have been either encouraged or challenged by my own journey reaching out to me for help in their own walk (all via LinkedIn).

I am reminded today that we do not lack opportunities to impact the world around us. Too many times we are looking for the spotlight. Too often we are looking to climb the career ladder. Too frequently we use volunteer service to simply enhance our resumes or promote our online profiles. But if we are willing to selflessly serve others both diligently and anonymously, doors of opportunity will open in time. The world is hurting. And most people just need a little help. Are we willing to provide that help even if no one besides the recipient ever knows?
